Why disability inclusive education

FAE adapts definition from the Tanzania Strategy on Inclusive Education that inclusive education is a system of education in which all children with and without disabilities are enrolled, actively participate and achieve in regular schools and other educational programmes regardless of their diverse backgrounds and abilities, without discrimination, through minimisation of barriers and maximisation of resources.

There is strong evidence from science that implementation of disability inclusive education is the best intervention in the implementation of disability-inclusive development interventions. The disability-inclusive education not only helps develop capacities of children with disabilities, but also builds awareness of other children and the school community towards people with disability. Hence, targeting education as the point of entry of disability-inclusive development interventions ensures high success in the inclusion of children with disabilities into everyday life as they transition from the education system. Education will enable them to participate and contribute to the national development like other people without disability. Furthermore, a more inclusive, just and fair world must start with an inclusive education system.
